Starwood Preferred Guest announced its first quarter promotion for 2016 this week. “Take Two” will provide members the opportunity to earn double points at every Starwood hotel when you stay two nights or more, as well a bonus of 250 points per night at select properties. The promotion runs from January 11 through April 30, 2016, and you must register by April 10.
The bonus is only applied to base points, so a general member will now earn four points per dollar instead of the usual two points per dollar when they stay with Starwood. Gold and most Platinum members earn an additional point (five total), and Platinum members who stay 75 nights or more earn another point (six total).
What are these “select properties” that earn an extra 250 points per night? That’s actually a pretty high number — I first read that as “per stay” — but many of them are outside the country. It’s an odd list.
- Only seven states and Puerto Rico have participating hotels.
- It appears that all of Spain and Germany are included, but no other European countries.
- Most major Asian cities have participating hotels.
In any case, it seems to be a generous promotion. It’s great to see double points on all two-night stays at every hotel. The fewer restrictions restrictions the better. Far too often all the hotels I want to stay at are excluded, which just turns me off the chain in general.
