Alaska Airlines already has a pretty good grip on the Hawaii market. Here’s their pre-announcement Hawaii route map below. Alaska Airlines is a funny airline. They mostly serve Seattle and Anchorage, but they also have a huge presence in both the Hawaii and US-Mexico routes.
From the schedule, it’s clear that they’re using one plane for each route. The plane will fly to Hawaii or California, spend the night, and then fly back. And repeat. The one exception looks to be on Fridays, where the Oakland-Lihue route will fly to Hawaii and back in the same day. I credit all my non-Star Alliance miles to Alaska Airlines, and while I don’t leave the Star Alliance that often, hopefully I’ll soon have enough Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles to redeem a couple tickets to Hawaii! I love that they fly from Anchorage to Hawaii. I think it would be awesome to do a stopover in Anchorage on the way to Hawaii, that way you get semi cold and tropical weather
