Starwood rolled a bunch of great updates for Platinum Members this week. I won’t re-hash them all. You can read about the changes here and here. And if you want to read Gary’s thoughts, go here. My thoughts will come in a future blog post.
Today, Hilton responded. Previously, Elite members would have to choose between a list of benefits. As of today, Diamond Members get them all. Check here to see the list of benefits on Hilton’s website.
Here are the best parts:
- Suite upgrades are now officially included. They were previously excluded.
- Getting a good upgrade (when available), 1000 bonus points, and daily continental breakfast can now all be had together, rather than having to choose
- Hilton still lacks a lifetime program
- SPG and Hyatt both have confirmable suite coupons, which Hilton does not have
All in all, these are great changes. Now Hilton, Starwood, and Hyatt all allow for suite ugprades. Another thing to keep in mind is that with the Hilton Surpass Amex card, you can earn top tier status with $ 40K annual spend. To my knowledge, no other credit card gets you top tier status without ever stepping foot into one of the properties.
Marriott Rewards, I’ve defended you for too long. Can you please step it up? You’re making me look dumb.
Update: Damian points out in the comments that Hilton had these changes on their website a bit earlier. However, they just sent us the e-mail yesterday. Perhaps Hilton responded to the rumored changes? Either way, good to see more benefits added in both programs!
