I’m flying down to San Francisco on Thursday to look at possible wedding venues in Sonoma and Napa Counties. In theory I should be well-prepared. I have a long list of attractive venues, including wineries, grand estates, and boutique hotels. But it’s still a long list, and I haven’t gone through to check up on as many of them as I should have. Does this one actually host weddings? Is there space for a dance floor, or is it just one long table in the middle of a cellar–or in the vineyard itself?! And I have to cram as many as possible into Saturday and Sunday.
I’m sure some of you have been to wine country weddings, or may even live there and have some local advice. The wedding itself isn’t the issue, since that will almost certainly be in a church, but rather finding a good venue for the reception. Something not overly manicured (no country clubs), with some space to go outdoors or inside. A firepit would be a great addition if available. Good food is a must, as is decent wine, since that’s the whole point of being there!
Someplace like Madrona Manor or Vintners Inn would be perfect, and we’ll visit both. Auberge du Soleil looks stunning, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hotel with room rates that start at $1,050 and go up from there. Yikes! Regardless of whether guests stay there, if that in any way correlates to its cost as a reception venue, I think it’s going to get struck from the list.
Yes, Megan is coming, too. But I’m the planner in the family (in both families to be fair). And this planner has no plan. Any ideas?
