Grupo AeroMexico is by far one of the best Central American Airlines flying the skies. They are the ONLY airline in Mexico to fly to Europe, Asia, and North and South America and they love to gloat that they are the ONLY Latin America Airline to offer customers with regular and direct flights to Asia (Tokyo & Shanghai). Not to mention AeroMexico is a full service carrier, offering complimentary check baggage, meals at meal times (In all cabins on all flights) and complimentary alcohol. And despite all of this, Grupo AeroMexico just upped the game by ordering the largest order of airplanes in Mexico’s Aviation history!
Today, AeroMexico signed a letter of intent with Boeing for 90 737-8 MAX and 10 B787-9 Dreamliners! Such an order by Aeromexico will ensure they are flying the most fuel-efficient planes in the industry and are the first Latin American carriers to operate such aircrafts!
It is important to note that this order for 100 aircraft is additional to the package of 20 new and wholly owned acquisitions the carrier announced in 2011 including ten Embraer 190 airplanes and ten Boeing 737-8 NG jet airliners, plus the nine Boeing 787 Dreamliners whose first delivery is scheduled for Summer 2013. For the Boeing 737-8 MAX the delivery will begin in 2018.
Not only will Aeromexico be receiving newer airplanes that provide customers with an overall better flying experience, including better inflight entertainment, touch screen window shades, larger windows and overhead bins, Boeing’s Sky Interior and more. But it will make AeroMexico’s fleet one of the youngest worldwide and more fuel efficient!
These aircraft are more environmentally friendly, in terms of operations as they significantly reduce fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions calculated at a 13% lower emission rate for the Boeing 737-8 Max and 23% less for the Boeing 787-9 jet airliner compared with Aeroméxico’s current fleet. Their advanced technology also helps increase flight ranges to more distant destinations compared with the carrier’s existing aircraft, while also reducing noise pollution and maintenance costs.
AeroMexico is very excited for this investment as they not only look to replace older aircrafts but expand their route map beyond the current 77 cities in 13 countries (45 Mexican cities, 16 US gateways, 6 South American =countries and 5 Caribbean and Central American countries, 2 European countires, 2 Asian countries, and 1 Canadian city)
Grupo Aeroméxico CEO Andrés Conesa said, “This order represents the most ambitious investment program for a national carrier in Mexican commercial aviation history and a major step forward in consolidating Grupo Aeroméxico’s international leadership position while moving forward in accelerating the Group’s modernization plan. We are taking this major step together with our partners, Boeing and General Electric under a flexible structure that allows us to grow according to market conditions.”
“These aircraft mean a huge leap in technology in the airline’s fleet and will allow us to have one of the youngest and most efficient fleets worldwide, thus significantly reducing our environmental footprint and also consolidate the Group’s fleet in only two types,” added Conesa.
AeroMexico is not messing around and is looking to grow both domestically and Internationally. With this new investment in aircraft, and the $65 million investment from Delta Airline (4.17% equivalent), AeroMexico will definitely be well suited to remain a forefront airline in Latin American travel and beyond.
