Low Cost Asian carriers are known to be the Party Airlines in the sky! Airlines like Cebu Pacific in the Philippines have been known for performing the safety demonstration for the aircraft to pop songs along with performing dance routines midflight. Once on a Cebu Pacific flight I was on, they had people do Karaoke over the intercom. Slightly annoying, yes but since it’s something you’d never see in the US it was also somewhat entertaining! However, this week low cost carrier VietJet took it to a new level and hosted a Bikini dance party midflight!
The Low Cost Carrier launched a new flight from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to the beach destination Nha Trang. Midway through the flight, Vietnamese beauty queens took over the aisle of the plane and performed a three minute dance routine in only their Bikinis! The danced to the song “I’m Crazy For Bananas” and handed out teddy bears as onlookers gawked, took photos, possibly covered conservative children eyes, and some men experienced an increase in circulation!
The airline was fined ~20 million Dong (Or US $960) for the free show, because they did not get government approval for such a performance.
In a letter to Vietnamese authorities last Tuesday, the company said the event inaugurated its first flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang on the southern coast. It said all safety regulations were followed. A company spokeswoman refused to comment on the fine Friday, but confirmed the local beauty queens were paid for their performance. She would not give her name because she was not authorized to speak to the media.
Honestly $960 is not much of a fine. But if an airline followed all safety regulations should they really be fine for making flying fun again? In fact I wish we would have male and female swimsuit models performing on our flights. Imagine how much more fun flying would be? Virgin America take note!
