This isn’t travel related, but Megan deserves some public recognition.
I am a very difficult person to take advantage of. Someone starts to tell me a story, and I immediately think, “Oh, yeah, I read that in *** two days ago.” Someone tries to trick me and I poke holes in their lies. Someone tries to plan a surprise and I notice the emails or text messages and figure out what’s really going on.
At least most of the time. I’m the planner in this relationship. But Megan really had me fooled. My birthday may have been a week and a half ago, but she managed to trick me into going to dinner with two of her friends (who are nice people, but, let’s face it, not my ideal dinner companions). We show up and I notice two of my friends having dinner.
With two of my other friends. And they don’t really know each other.
And then I notice more of them. Why is everyone having dinner without me? This is so rude. Why do I not get invited to anything. Why, I ought to…
Oh. That’s why.
Because it’s a surprise birthday party! Megan lucked out, let me sleep in until noon, and then ignored me while I spent the rest of my day on the computer. I didn’t pay attention to her buzzing phone. I didn’t notice that she was texting more than usual. I didn’t care that she went out to the store (which was apparently to pick up a birthday cake).
She really deserves some credit for this one. I don’t think anyone has ever surprised me quite so much.
