Sometimes I don’t understand their humor, but I have to give Air New Zealand credit for putting a lot of effort into their pre-flight safety videos. Most people don’t pay attention, and by mixing them up every few months I think it helps not only entertain the passengers but also encourage them to think about the underlying message.
Of course, when you’re always changing, sometimes there are hits and sometimes there are misses. I can’t say I was thrilled with the last Hobbit-themed video, but I didn’t like the movie either (yet I loved the books and the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings).
Fortunately, Air New Zealand just released a new video in cooperation with Bear Grylls, one of those wilderness adventure TV personalities. Either I really don’t want enough TV, or he’s more popular in the southern hemisphere. I rather liked his attitude and the way his crew were able to incorporate an airplane — one of the most obvious symbols of modern technology — into the great outdoors.
Way to go! This is a pre-flight video I wouldn’t mind watching more than once. There’s also an opportunity to enter a new sweepstakes. Click here to learn more about The Great Kiwi Bucket List. You can win an trip for two from anywhere in the world to New Zealand and enjoy all the outdoor adventure it has to offer.
