I wrote about Pick2Pay a few weeks ago as a new service that lets you organize your rewards cards and find the best card to use for each purchase so you can maximize the points and miles you earn. You can still access this online portal by clicking on the “Online Shopping Maximizer” link in the navigation menu above. Today, I’ll say more about the mobile app, which has a few added features that help you save even more.
Pick2Pay’s mobile app was recently update for iOS7 and includes features such as adding notes to individual cards (e.g., your progress toward a minimum spend requirement). Existing features like the ability to assign specific values to your points and miles are still there. Just because you earn more points with one card than another doesn’t mean the total value of your rewards are the same.
But what I like most about the Pick2Pay mobile app is that it includes a maps feature that alerts you to additional savings opportunities nearby.
For example, if I’m searching for a place to eat, Pick2Pay can bring up a map with flags for nearby restaurants, and each one will have a suggested card from your wallet (or a suggested card of its own if you’re not logged in) telling you how to earn the most rewards for your purchase.
Yeah, most restaurants probably offer a similar bonus, and Yelp is probably a better choice if I want reviews, but that’s not what we’re aiming for here. Instead, pay attention to the different colors of each flag.
Blue flags are typical stores with no special offers. Click on those and you’ll just see the name and a suggested card. We’ll get back to these.
Green flags indicate that you can save even more by purchasing an electronic gift card — which you can buy right from your phone. When I had coffee with Pick2Pay’s founder, he showed me how easy it was to buy a Starbucks gift card through Pick2Pay and load it to his Starbucks app while waiting in line to order.
Red flags are another interesting opportunity, indicating that there is a special offer available through MOGL or Bing. Everyone’s doing the daily deals now, but not all of these offers are limited time. The key is knowing that they exist and that you’re nearby and able to use them. I expect this to be one of Pick2Pay’s star features if it can add even more deal sites like Google Offers and Groupon.
Again, Pick2Pay can hook you up with a great deal, providing a link in the app that you can use to save even more in addition to your regular credit card rewards.
Finally, let’s get back to those green flags. What if you’re just shopping downtown and want to get the best deal? If you’re near the Nordstrom flagship, you can still use Pick2Pay to look up the best rewards card or even a shopping portal. For example, Pick2Pay can suggest going to Nordstrom.com through the Ultimate Rewards shopping portal, along with a link. If you can place your order online through your phone, you could just go upstairs to Guest Services and pick up the same clothes you would have bought anyway.
