One of my New Year’s resolutions for the blog is to improve my focus on events in the Pacific Northwest. I used to write about mileage run opportunities, and stopped because it wasn’t the biggest attraction on the blog. But it was important enough to local readers that a few asked me to start again. There is so much focus on discount fares out of San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York that I agree it does help to give smaller markets more attention.
First up is a good deal from Seattle to Marrakech, Morocco (HT to The Flight Deal). You can do it in a weekend for $942 if you just want a quick mileage run without taking too much time off work. But the best deal available is $912 and I could only find it for trips of 3 nights or longer. Make sure you route via Miami for the most miles (15,590) and get the CPM down to the 5.8 range. Other routings via DFW and JFK are also available at $912 but are closer to 6.0 and above.
Need help searching? Check out my three part introduction to using ITA Matrix and don’t forget to check other nearby departure airports. The YR fuel surcharge is $420 if you’re into fuel dumping, but that will make it impossible to upgrade using an eVIP because American agents process these manually.
I’ll be upfront and say that these posts are almost always going to be for flights departing Seattle, Portland, or Vancouver. Only if a fare is extremely good (like the Norwegian fuel dumps) will I bother to discuss fare sales in other markets, the idea being that someone in Seattle, Portland, or Vancouver could still save money after the cost of booking a positioning flight. I usually come across them in places like FlyerTalk, The Flight Deal, or my own searches, but you are welcome to email me with suggestions of your own.
