I recently returned from another fun trip. It really was 2 trips, and I’ll provide a full report for each, but for now, while trying to settle back into work and finish up other reports here, I’ll provide a preview of my trip thanks to some photos I posted to Instagram.
It was my last Star Alliance First Class reward with United miles booked before the devaluation. This trip started when Lufthansa opened up space on their new Munich to Toronto routes last November. I built on from there. I had flights in First Class on Lufthansa (2), Thai (2), and Asiana. It was my first flight on Asiana (albeit in old F), and my first flight on the Thai A380 and the Lufthansa 747 with both a bed and a seat. I was the only passenger in F for 2 of those flights. I visited the Lufthansa First Class Lounge in Munich and the First Class Terminal. I visited the Thai Airways Royal First Class lounge in Bangkok and Spa twice. Needless to say, it was a great trip, both enroute and on the ground.
As fun as the travel was, the destination was excellent as well. I visited Siem Reap Cambodia and the temples of Angkor Wat. I decided to be somewhat frugal since I was traveling alone, so I stayed at the Le Meridien rather than the new Park Hyatt in Siem Reap.
After that, my wife and I spent a few days at the new Andaz Penninsula Papagayo. I booked it with cash and points, and upgraded to a lovely suite.
Here are some photos:
Upon arrival in Munich, I visited the First Class Lounge there, and got excited about a duck.
My first overnight was in Kuala Lumpur, a favorite city of mine.
The destination of this trip was Angkor Wat
On the return I flew through Frankfurt…
And visited the always amazing First Class Terminal, this shot from the bar.
I flew back to North America in the seat/bed combination on the Lufthansa 747-400.
Then we visited Costa Rica, where we saw local wildlife…
And the beautiful landscape while we stayed at the new Andaz property.
Stay tuned for more. Full trip reports to follow.
