After spending several hours in the SilverKris Lounge, I finally made my way to the “domestic” terminal where I could catch my next flight to Bangkok, my final destination. This part of the Changi airport is still very nice by most standards, but pales in comparison to the international terminal I just came from. Boarding was very easy at it seemed like a very light load on the flight. And in case you didn’t read my previous posts, this flight was booked using 62,500 LifeMiles for the LAX-NRT-SIN-BKK route (and yes, we all know much better uses of LM now!).
I boarded and found there were only 6 people in Business Class on this regional A330 flight, and my friend and I were two of them. We were on the plane pretty early, so I was chatting with the flight attendant for quite a while. As I mentioned in my review of Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class, the Singapore Airlines flight attendants are the friendliest I’ve encountered. I’m not a particularly chatty guy, but they’re just so friendly that I can’t help but have a conversation with them on most occasions. He also gave us an option of either orange juice or water upon boarding, and also distributed menus.
The seat was good, and was extremely similar to the Asiana’s A330 Business Class that I flew last year. You won’t have an extremely comfortable sleep in it since it’s an angled lie-flat, but it sure beats Coach! The seat and IFE controls were intuitive, but the flight was so short that I didn’t even bother watching a movie or TV show.
The flight to Bangkok is a short one of just a couple of hours. Even so, there was a breakfast service shortly after takeoff. Since I stuffed myself at the lounge a little earlier, I wasn’t particularly hungry so just opted for a less-than-continental breakfast of fruit and a croissant. My friend elected for the Nasi Lemak, which seemed like a very substantial meal.
The lavatory was standard, except that they again had toothbrushes and Schick Xtreme 3 shaving razors (which I’m a fan of). I think it’s pretty cool that Singapore stocks the same amenities in the regional flights as the long-haul international ones. Or maybe I just really like those razors…
I wish there were more to discuss about this flight, but that was pretty much it. At the end we were given immigration forms and a special ticket that said we were Business Class passengers and get a special line. It says “Not For Sale” on the ticket, but I figured I try my luck scalping it at the airport anyway. Unfortunately the ticket wasn’t even necessary at BKK airport – the lines were pretty short when we arrived so I couldn’t find a buyer 😉 .
But again – this was another perfectly pleasant flight from Singapore Airlines. The friendliness and consistency is why they’re one of my favorite airlines.
