British Airways announced a promotion this morning that offers up to 125,000 Avios points when you fly in business or first class by January 10, 2015. These must be transatlantic, round-trip flights and the offer is valid for new bookings only. However, travel may be on British Airways, American Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, OpenSkies or US Airways. See the offer page for complete terms and conditions, including eligible fare classes.
Although many of you probably prefer to redeem miles for first and business class rather than paying cash, this promotion can still be very rewarding. For example, One Mile at a Time recently pointed out several cheap fares on British Airways to parts of Europe and how to get them priced at roughly$1,500 round-trip. It’s plausible that there may be other opportunities between now and January 10. You’ll get 20,000 for the first trip, 40,000 for the second trip, and 65,000 for the third trip.
And if used for non-stop domestic flights in the U.S., those Avios can be put to good use. I’m fond of pointing out that Alaska Airlines operates many non-stop flights to Hawaii from about a dozen west coast airports for only 12,500 Avios each way (that’s five free round-trip tickets if you maximize this promotion). Other good award opportunities may exist near US Airways and American Airlines hubs.
