I had a birthday recently, and as usual received a bunch of nice greetings from friends online. I also was acknowledged by various travel programs, although interestingly the programs I consider myself loyal to didn’t send me anything. One of the most memorable birthday messages I received was from Southwest Airlines. I’ve only flown Southwest a few times ever, but of course I have a Rapid Rewards account. It won’t change my flight patterns, but I do give them credit for their creative greetings.
This birthday wasn’t as memorable as the one I celebrated at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
Their birthday greetings are customizable for the person’s name, and then you can select one of 4 genres of music, rock, country, opera, or hip-hop. How creative. It obviously took some effort, but what a simple way to provide a personalized birthday greeting.
Even if its not your birthday, and if you don’t mind spoiling the surprise you might feel when it is your birthday, you can check out the site on your own.
I’ve long thought that the little things matter with loyalty programs, although my expectations are usually pretty low. This is a good example of Southwest doing the little things very well. Kudos to them.
And Happy Birthday to you!
