LoungeBuddy — one of the best tools for information on airport lounges — is partnering with Cathay Pacific to integrate iBeacon technology into their lounge at San Francisco. This technology uses short-range location information to provide relevant updates that, in theory, improve the visitor’s experience. From the press release:
…[P]assengers with the LoungeBuddy App on their iPhone can receive customized information upon entry in the Cathay Pacific lounge at SFO. Information such as today’s food and beverage menu and an enhanced overview of the lounge’s available amenities will be instantly displayed on travelers’ iPhones using the lounge’s iBeacon network, as well as the option to check in on social media.
As part of this partnership launch, Cathay Pacific is giving away one complimentary round-trip fare in premium economy class between San Francisco and Hong Kong. But to enter, you’ll need to visit the Cathay Pacific lounge in SFO’s Concourse A between now and August 27, then access the LoungeBuddy app while you’re there.
Not going on an international trip anytime soon? You can also enter if you have a Board Room membership with Alaska Airlines. Alaska is using the Cathay Pacific lounge as its temporary home after closing its own Board Room last year.
Cathay Pacific is providing the winner with an additional 60,000 Asia miles, which are enough to book another round-trip award ticket in economy class between the West Coast and Hong Kong. Alternatively, purchase your own premium economy fare and use the miles to upgrade to business class. (See the Asia Miles award chart for more ideas.)

It’s a great tool that can help you find the best lounge during your travels — and in many cases tell you which ones you already have access to for free!
