With new locations in Chicago, Phoenix, Fort Lauderdale, and New York, Silvercar has expanded significantly this summer. The New York entrance is a big one, as the Brooklyn location means it’s more like a car share program. If you want to take a day trip or need a car for the week, you can rent an Audi A4 without the hassle of a traditional rental firm or traveling far out to the airport.
All other Silvercar locations are still at airports, and the more plentiful they are the better. I don’t rent often. When I do, my wife likes the added comfort, and I like the convenience. Even after several trips to Dallas I still get lost finding my way back to the airport and stopping for gas along the way. The built-in GPS and flat-rate refueling plan ($5 + market rates) makes it that much easier to hurry back and catch my flight.
A variety of discounts are still available for summer travel.
NYC rentals are the most expensive at $99 per day, but through September 9 can save $75 on a 2+ day rental by entering SCNYC when you book (rental must begin midweek, Sunday through Wednesday).
First-time renters can save $25 if they enter my referral code (I get $25, too). Just type SMACKENZIE when you sign up.
All renters, old or new, can save $50 through the end of this year. Silvercar provided a special $50 coupon at the recent Frequent Traveler University in Dallas and invited us to share it more widely. Just enter FTU50 when you book.
Austin rentals are just $49 per day if you book by this Sunday for travel through the rest of August.
California rentals at SFO or LAX start at $69 per day. Many other locations are $49 per day.
Not sure where to go? The full list of Silvercar locations includes:

If you’ve tried Silvercar before and liked them, know that they’re nominated for “Leading Car Rental Company” by the World Travel Awards. The competition are agencies like Avis, Hertz, and Budget — these may offer a broader selection, but I think the single-vehicle model provided by Silvercar makes the rental process much smoother and results in the opportunity to pass on some cost savings.
