SPG Hot Escapes is a weekly list of discounted hotels around the world offering pre-paid rates that may be 20% less than the usual price. Starwood Preferred Guest members (no elite status required) can save an additional 5%. Each Wednesday a new list is announced, and you have until Saturday to book.
I don’t ordinarily visit the Hot Escapes website unless I have upcoming travel plans. Rarely are these deals good enough to provoke a new trip, but they are worth checking if I have pre-existing reservations and want to look for a better deal.
For example, I have a stay at the Alfonso XIII in Seville coming up. The rate I booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts was €300 ($335) per night. SPG Hot Escapes is advertised as low as $202 but in fact is closer to $275 on the nights I want to stay. Is it worth switching to save $65 per night? My FHR rate includes daily breakfast and one dinner for two. I can also continue to seek a better deal, while Hot Escapes must be pre-paid. But it is tempting.
Many other hotels in places like Hawaii, Bali, Rome, and San Diego are on sale, some at rates under $100. You can check out the map to learn more; just remember to log into your SPG account before you book to see the lowest price.
