Starwood Preferred Guest has two small promotions available that can help you earn 1,000 bonus points on your next stay — but they’re expiring at the end of the month.
The first promotion is available to everyone who makes a weekend stay by August 31. Previous bookings are eligible, however you will need to register by August 15 and before you check-in. I always recommend registering for a promotion even if you have no plans to take advantage of it — there might be a surprise trip!
With SPG® Make It Count, you can earn 1,000 bonus Starpoints® when your eligible stay of two nights or more includes a weekend night.* Register by August 15, 2015, and collect bonus Starpoints at any of our more than 1,200 Starwood hotels and resorts worldwide through August 31, 2015.
The second is targeted exclusively for SPG American Express cardholders and is intended to celebrate Amex’s decision to stop charging foreign transaction fees. (You’ll also get free Boingo WiFi and access to Sheraton Club lounges, which I consider less valuable.)
Earn 1,000 bonus Starpoints® when you register and stay two or more nights with SPG® hotels and resorts between July 30 and August 30, 2015 — exclusively for Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card Members.*
You must register for this promotion before your stay and by August 30, and the two qualifying nights do not need to be consecutive. All Starwood hotels are eligible.
Foreign transaction fees have always been a sticking point for me with Starwood’s credit cards. I think they’re good for earning points, and I appreciate the head start on elite status each year. But I have refused to use their cards out of the country — even at Starwood hotels — because I have so many other cards that are fee-free. Now I might actually put this card back in my wallet for my upcoming trip to Spain.
