Hilton is running a promotional sale this week with discounts of 20% on its Best Available Rate — and an additional 5% for all Hilton HHonors members (with or without elite status). You need to book by April 1 and stay by May 31 to be eligible. Reservations must be made directly with Hilton, and all brands and properties in North and South America are participating.
Remember that direct reservations with Hilton also come with free Internet access and enable you to earn points and credit toward elite status. Many third-party bookings, such as online travel agencies, do not qualify for earning points.
Like many other hotel chains, Hilton is heavily promoting its direct sales channels as the best place to book online. Hotels are getting better at matching the same prices you’ll find on third-party sites, and in some cases they are even writing new contracts that give them the right to undercut their distributors. That’s great news in my opinion. Third-party sites make it easy to comparison shop, but I’ve never found a compelling reason to actually book there. The points you can earn for free nights and the potential of earning elite status are usually worth the effort of going back to a hotel’s own channel — whether that’s Hilton, Hyatt, Starwood, or someone else — and booking direct.
