A short post but hopefully with a big impact for some of you. Alaska Airlines told me that they’ve updated their FAQ on the recent change to Emirates first and business class award pricing. They already offered to refund any miles purchased since March 1, in case you had plans to buy miles and then redeem them for one of the affected awards.
But what if you already booked your award at the low price and plans changed? Do you have to work your entire schedule around an existing trip just to avoid spending more miles?
Alaska Airlines will permit a one-time change to existing awards on Emirates that were ticketed at the old price. Normally, Alaska charges the current award price whenever you make a change. (Most airlines have the same policy.) Given that the new award prices are so much higher, that would obviously be painful. No mention of change fees so I assume those still apply.
What if I want to make changes to my existing award?
All changes made online will be ticketed at the new award level. Members who have existing award reservations can contact our Customer Care team for a one-time award change without spending more miles.
I know at least one person who had a ticket booked at the old price and already canceled. But there may be others out there who have a meeting or family emergency come up that forces them to reschedule a trip. Hopefully this waiver will be of use.
