In addition to posting several articles on how to book and price ANA awards in the last couple days, I’ve also been fine tuning the Award Maximizer search tool to display seasonal awards from ANA Mileage Club and American AAdvantage. Here are two examples of results after a search from San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda.
There seems to be equal interest in either always displaying seasonal and off-peak awards or only displaying them when the user inputs a valid date. However, the former is much easier to program.
I also think displaying all the results is more consistent with the general spirit of this search tool, which is to display published award options and not necessarily what’s valid in your scenario. For example, the tool doesn’t ask for your routing information, which could also invalidate an otherwise perfectly good award. The links below each result are there so you can do this homework on your own.
That doesn’t mean I try to provide misleading information. I have also spent this week reclassifying hundreds of irrelevant airports so you won’t see an offer for an off-peak award on American or ANA if they don’t actually serve those airports.
I’ve made similar edits to screen the airports served by Alaska Airlines and most of its partners, although I still have a little work to do in adding seasonal pricing. Regardless, the experience continues to improve.
