Hyatt has put their Gold Passport points on sale through the end of the month with a 30% bonus for anyone who buys 5,000 points or more. This is not a targeted promotion. As a result, it’s fairly easy to buy a few points for your next award redemption at the price of 1.8 cents per point.
You can also combine this with another promotion running right now if you redeem them for an award stay (either a free night, or a Points + Cash stay) and get 10% of the points returned to you through October. That helps stretch your points further.
I personally think 1.8 cents is a little rich for valuing Hyatt points and prefer something closer to 1.4-1.5 cents. I remember asking Zach at The Points Guy with a little shock in my voice that they assigned 1.8 cents in their monthly valuations. We agreed it’s not impossible to redeem them for 1.8 cents or more — I certainly have — but usually my math includes some less optimal uses. Set the bar too high and they end up not getting redeemed at all.
The bottom line is that how you value points is up to you, but this promotion could make sense for some travelers and not for others. It really depends on how you use them.
