Many of the largest hotel chains don’t have a strong presence on the Las Vegas strip, one of the world’s most popular tourism destinations, because that particular area is dominated by casino resorts. So instead, the last few years have seen partnerships between traditional hotels and casino loyalty programs.
IHG was one of the first by adding the Venetian and Palazzo to their collection of InterContinental Alliance Resorts. Hilton and Marriott also have a few small partnerships with individual hotels.
Hyatt followed up with a strong partnership with MGM Resort’s M life program, including reciprocal elite status and the ability to earn elite qualifying nights.
Starwood is the most recent addition and has another extensive partnership with Caesars Entertainment’s Total Rewards, but it’s more limited than the Hyatt-MGM partnership.
Point being that if you have plans to visit Las Vegas you should always consider how you can reinforce your existing hotel strategy. Do you need some extra nights to requalify for elite status this year? Make sure you pick a qualifying hotel and a qualifying rate. Are rates through the roof due to a special event? Maybe you can redeem some points. The benefits of having status aren’t always so great — upgrades are often excluded from published benefits at Vegas hotels — but small things like being able to skip a taxi queue can be more useful in my opinion.
Hyatt is offering up to 500 points per night when you stay at its MGM partner hotels in Las Vegas through September 30. The catch is that the points are only awarded after each three nights, and some properties may award fewer points. However, the three nights don’t have to be consecutive, and there’s no limit to earning more points if you stay more often.

Rates at The Mirage, Delano, or MGM Grand can often be $120 or less in the summer months. I’ve even seen rates under $80 on some days. And they’re some of my favorite properties on the strip. So if you have plans to stay in Las Vegas make sure to register for this promotion first and confirm with the hotel that your Gold Passport number is on file when you check-in.
