We finished our euro-trip in Prague, and while we had a 6AM flight to Frankfurt (followed by an A380 trip to SFO in business class – woot!), we made time to quickly stop in the Czech Airlines Lounge.
I’ll spoil the surprise and tell you that this lounge was nothing amazing, but the thing I found most intriguing was the entry sign and the list of accepted carrier logos. Czech Airlines is part of the Sky Team. Thus, seeing all of those carriers was not surprising. Then they had a list of all the other partners. This list included Lufthansa and Swiss (Star Alliance), Malev (OneWorld), Priority Pass, Diners Club, and a host of other airlines. It seemed like if you had status with pretty much any Airline, you could find a way to get in there :-).
When you walk in to the left, there’s an open area with chairs and tables of various sizes. There are a couple computers on the end as well, and those are situated next to a TV. All of the furniture pieces are bright and colorful, and the tables are either glass or wood. While it can be a bit of an eye sore, I actually thought it looked nice! My girlfriend, on the other hand, said it looked like they robbed an Ikea.
Free alcohol was ready for the taking, even if it was only 5AM. There were self serve booze stations for mixing drinks, and many of the tables included wine bottles, ready to be popped open.
I’m not sure what the food spread would look like later in the day, but at 5AM, there were large bowls of nuts, mixed pretzels, and cookies. It reminded me of the type of food you would find in a Red Carpet Club. There was also a place where you could make yourself a bowl of cereal.
The lounge is split into two parts, and the food / entry section separates the two. Both sides are pretty similar. I think the most important thing to note about this entire post is that even though the Czech Airlines lounge in Prague is a Sky Team lounge, they have gone through the effort of creating enough partnerships with other airlines that if you have some other sort of alliance status, you’ll likely be able to get in. The lounge isn’t fantastic by any stretch, but it beats sitting around the airport terminal.
