Have You Ever Had a Better Hotel Room Balcony?

by Kevin Hanson
Last updated May 6, 2019

My dad and I both had reservations at the Marriott Budapest, and we are both Marriott Platinum members (he’s actually a lifetime platinum member). It’s a funny thing to be traveling with my parents… Normally I always hope for the best possible upgrade, but with my mother being a bit “picky,” to say the least, when it comes to hotel rooms, I had another wish: I hoped for the best possible upgrade, as long as it wasn’t better than my parents’ room :-).

My flight was a couple hours before my parents’ flight so I arrived at the Budapest Marriott a couple hours before them. I checked in, and upon check-in, the front desk agent thanked me for being a platinum member and said they had upgraded me to a junior suite – great!

I then asked, “This might be a weird question… but… my father (and i gave his name) will be checking in to the hotel in a couple hours. Does he have a similar upgrade? My mother will be traveling with him, and I have been teasing her all week about getting a better upgrade than her. Do they have a suite as well?”

He laughed, looked at the computer, and said, “Yes sir – they have a very nice room. Your mother will not be disappointed.”

First of all, there was nothing “junior” about the suite I got. It was huge and had a separate living room, multiple TVs, etc. I assumed that my parents got the same room. When they arrived, they texted me to come up to room 1073. Apparently 1073 was the “Janos Hill Suite.”

Instead of a living room, it had a similar sized room with a large dining table, but they had a HUGE balcony. Seriously. HUGE. You could have a 25+ person party on this balcony! And is there a better place to have a great balcony than the Danube River in Budapest?

Anyhow, that’s the long-winded story. Pictures of the balcony / view are below. All pictures are clickable for larger versions. Back to the topic of the post… have you ever gotten a better one?
