After arriving into Honolulu on my American Airlines mileage run, I wandered aimlessly through the open plan terminal looking for my next gate and club lounge. Along the way there is some great plane spotting as there are no windows clouding your view. I just wish I had brought my camera with me instead of just my phone!
After a long walk, and missing the sign twice, I finally found the lounge near the Kona Brewing Company Restaurant and up the stairs. Unfortunately this is a small lounge without a shower.
The lounge served soup along with a selection of snacks, drinks and a few open bar items.
My next flight was a quick Hawaiian Air flight between Honolulu and Maui. Since it was such a short flight a juice drink box was provided and we were on the ground 45 minutes later. The Maui terminal does not have a club for American Airlines passengers, so I waited in the main part of the terminal before boarding my flight to Los Angeles. This was the longest part of the mileage run. It was probably 3am back in New York and I was dragging along.
Departure time was around 10pm and after take off most passengers slept. But not this guy, I was waiting for one of those famous pizza’s I’d heard so much about. The pizza was good, hot with a buttery crust. After having the snack I reclined the angled lie flat seat and slept for a few hours. Due to the tail winds and the generally shorter distance from OGG to LAX I didn’t get to sleep for long though.
Once in LAX, I added my name to the list to use the showers at the Admirals Club and my name was called after 20 minutes.
After a quick shower I boarded the 7am 767-200 service to JFK in business class, the last leg of my mileage run. And once again, I had a very unfriendly seat mate. I’m still not sure if it was the early departure or the New York destination that meant they couldn’t even respond to “hello”.
29 hours after I left home I was back. I had flown 10,209 miles and with the double elite qualifying promotion available at that time I crossed the threshold to re-qualify for Executive Platinum status.
