Review: Hyatt Regency Indianapolis

by Brad
Last updated January 6, 2019

I’ve been to Indianapolis fairly frequently for business trips, and stayed in various hotels. This trip was my first stay at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis.  Like many Hyatt hotels located in a city center, the building is somewhat dated, but this property was nearly completed with an interior renovation when I visited.

The hotel is conveniently located downtown on Capitol Street, four or so blocks to Lucas Oil Stadium, Conseco Fieldhouse, and Monument Circle, plus countless restaurants downtown.

Upon check in I was assigned a high floor.  It was clear my room was newly refurbished.  The shape of the hotel made for some odd angles in the guest rooms.

As always, the Hyatt Grand bed is quite comfortable.

Small bathroom, still with the nasty White Ginger amenities.

As is often true in renovated hotels, particularly in Hyatts, the bathrooms are quite small.  At least this renovation included new tile surrounding the bath and new shower and fixtures.

The fitness center was still being worked on during my stay, it was in an odd location just off the main lobby.  I found it odd to be on cardio machines at street level, watching people walk by outside.  Another thing I like about staying in Indy is the various jogging trails, along the White River, and a along canal running through downtown.

Hyatt Indianapolis Regency Club

The Regency Club was newly renovated, and although small, was well appointed. I first visited in the late afternoon, when it happened to be empty.  It got pretty crowded in the morning breakfast rush.

Cold drinks

The good offerings were pretty typical for Regency Clubs in the US.  Cereals, fruit and breads for breakfast.  Honor bar in the evenings.

Final thoughts

The Hyatt Regency is a nice option in downtown Indianapolis.  My more typical destination there is the Sheraton Downtown a few blocks away.  That is due to its typically lower nightly rate, but I’d certainly return to the Hyatt if the price is right. I’d also like to see the Hyatt now that the renovations are complete.
