My United Airlines history: Mileage Plus Purge Data Print

by Brad
Last updated January 28, 2019

I recently requested a complete printout of all my flights credited to Mileage Plus.  It has been 20 years since my first credited flight on United, and with the uncertainity of the merger, I figured I should do this before its too late or this feature gets ‘enhanced’ away through the merger.

I’ve had people tell me about this feature, and I finally decided to do it for myself.  The process is summarized in this Flyertalk thread.

My United Mileage Plus History

Basically, this is a printout of all the paid flights credited to Mileage Plus since joining the  program.  Now I (nerdily) keep a spreadsheet of my flights, but I have only done that in recent years.  I certainly didn’t remember all my flights going back 20 years.  In order to get a printout, I sent a request to Mileage Plus on United.com for a “data purge printout”.   I mentioned that I wanted this information for a permanent backup of my travel history.

I received a reply saying they were working on it, and to allow 3 weeks to process my request.  Overall, it took about 2 weeks until I received my printout.  It was sent via US Mail, all folded up into a small envelope, about 1 inch thick.  It was primarily a large stack of legal sized dot matrix printouts.  Starting in June of 2009 the flight history was printed on regular ‘letter’ paper, with what appears to be a laser printer.  Wow, really high tech!

The information provided includes flight date, from, to, actual operator (codeshares, etc), Flight number, flown class, booked class, ticket number, total miles, flight miles, status and bonus miles.

It’s old-school, with the hard copies of everything. Still it is fun to look back and see how my flight history changed over time, particularly when I started flying regularly for work. Nice to have as a reference, to look back on. I would encourage anyone who has a long history flying with United to request this.
