The O’Hare Urban Garden: Growing Fresh Produce at ORD.

by Brad
Last updated December 31, 2018

Good quality food is something I strive to find while traveling, when I had a little time on an O’Hare layover, I wanted to explore the Garden and feature here so maybe others can explore it.

The O’Hare Urban Garden is a unique concept in that its truly local food in a place that primarily features large quantities of fast food and junk food which is the norm at airports.  Items grown in the garden are currently used in four restaurants in the airport including Stanley’s Blackhawks Restaurant, Tuscany, Wicker Park Sushi and Tortas Frontera.

This is located upstairs in the rotunda at the entrance to concourse G in Terminal 3.  There is quite a bit of space in this area and there are tables surrounding it which had menu cards. There are a few options for food service up there as well?  It was very quiet on the upper level, with only one table occupied when i was there.  It seemed like a nice quiet place to relax.  Plus there is a decent view above Terminals 2 and 3.

As we all know, finding healthy food in airports can be a challenge.  Eco-friendly options are even harder given that low cost and quantity generally trumps quality in airport dining. This is a smart, sustainable idea. Airports are generally the opposite of that.
