Again and again Alaska Airlines has proven to be one of my favorite airlines bringing not only topnotch customer service to every flight, but doing things for passengers that other airlines do not. Being in the industry to make buck, I feel like airlines favorite thing to do is either let your miles expire or your electronic credit voucher expire without notice, leaving it up to you to know the details and the fine print.
Alaska Air, like most airlines, only allows ECV to be good for 12 months from the date of issue. Being more than enough time to book a ticket, I find this to be completely fair; however, if you don’t fly an airline very often, then 12 months may not be enough time. The good news is, the flight doesn’t have to take place in 12 months, it just has to be booked before the one year anniversary of the date the ECV was issued, so in actuality, one could use the ECV almost 12 months later after booking the ticket, depending on how far in advance an airline allows booking for travel.
Despite the rules and regulations that each airline has, I feel as though everyone knows someone who forgot about a credit and it expired. Wasting a free ticket or money off travel is never good and I would NEVER recommend allowing this to happen. However, of course it happens, and we bite our lower lip, get mad at ourselves and the airline, and point fingers in every direction. In the end it’s your own fault, but of course it’s frustrating to lose money!
Nevertheless, unlike other airlines, Alaska is trying to make sure your ECV does NOT expire without being used! Today I received this email from Alaska Airline:

Our records indicate funds in your My Wallet will expire in 90 days. This credit was issued

AMAZING! Alaska actually wants me to use my ECV! I have had credit vouchers on a number of airlines before and NEVER has the airline sent me a notice that my ECV is going to expire soon! They are definitely doing things right over at Alaska Airlines, no wonder why they’ve been ranked Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Traditional Network Carriers in North America, Five Years in a Row” In J.D.
