Review: Air Canada Vancouver Transborder Maple Leaf Lounge

by Rocky Horan
Last updated July 17, 2019

Air Canada operates three Maple Leaf lounges in Vancouver. Each lounge serves a different group of flyers. There is the International Maple Leaf lounge for all international flights, except those to the United States. There is also a domestic lounge for flights within Canada. Finally, there is a transborder lounge for pre-cleared flights between Canada and the United States.

The transborder lounge is after US Customs and passport control and is open daily from 4:45am to 7:45pm. The lounge is not as nice or as large as the international Maple leaf lounge, but the Maple Leaf lounge is great for its purpose. Not to mention, the Maple leaf lounge is nicer than many lounges in the US. Way to go Air Canada.

Eat and Drink

After a long flight or before a jaunt to the United States, Air Canada is here to satisfy your needs. The Vancouver Transborder lounge offers hot food, snacks, cold food, and booze. All self-serve and mostly pretty tasty.

There is self-serve bar offers premium spirits. I was excited to see Bulleit bourbon available! There is also local canadian wines and beer.

Relax, watch airplanes

Depending on where you sit, the Maple leaf lounge offers great tarmac views. Watch the narrow body and regional jets taxi to and from the gates. There is seating for those who want comfy chairs, or tables or want to eat.

Not all seats offer a tarmac view. Yet the lounge has very high ceilings and is open to the terminal below. So no matter where you sit,  you get lots of natural lights to help you adjust to the local time zone.

Transborder Maple Leaf Lounge

If you are flying between Canada and the United States, the Maple leaf lounge in Vancouver is great. It’s large, offers lots of space and plenty of amenities. I love Air Canada’s Maple leaf lounges. They are nice and better than many US Domestic air lounge lounges. Not to mention, I love a self serve bar without upselling bar tenders.
