Earn Air Canada Altitude Status by NOT Flying

by Rocky Horan
Last updated April 28, 2020

You can now earn Air Canada Altitude Prestige 25K status good through 2021 without ever stepping on a plane. Trying to keep Air Canada Aeroplan relevant with the current situation and lack of flying, Air Canada is extending status to people without flying. For the first time ever, you can earn status from your living room!

Earn Status At home

If you haven’t already reached Altitude status, you can now do so without flying. From April 20 and May 31, 2020 if you earn 50,000 Aeroplan miles through everyday travel at home activities, you’ll receive Altitude Prestige 25K status valid through 2021.

Travel at home activities include Aeroplan credit card spending. In addition to spending money on the credit card, there’s several other ways to earn miles at home. First, shop online through the aeroplan shopping portal. Earn bonus miles for each purchase. Second, convert hotel or credit card points to Aeroplan miles. This includes transfer partners such as American Express Membership rewards points or capitol one. Every mile you convert now counts towards status! Finally, donate Aeroplan miles. For every five Aeroplan Miles you donate to an approve charity, you’ll receive one Bonus Altitude Qualifying Mile (AQM).

If you want to earn status at home, you must Register for this promotion.

Stay Home, Earn Status

Air Canada realizes that earning status is important to some and without flying people are nervous about earning or retaining status. In addition to extending status and gifting status, Air Canada plans to share more ways to earn status at home in the coming weeks. Prestige 25K status provides preferred seat discounts, priority airport services, and the ability to upgrade on flights. Never before have we seen Air Canada status available through spending. If you’re a big spender, this offer is for you! Or, if you’re looking at booking a future flight, this is an easy way to earn status. I’ve transferred well over 50,000 miles to Aeroplan for award tickets before. Never before would I think this would earn me status! Now, transferring enough miles for a one-way ticket to Europe in business class from your Amex will earn you status.
