Marriott’s MegaBonus promotions are no where near as good as they once were, but this summer you have the chance to earn up to 4,000 bonus Marriott points per stay with no limit to the number of points you can earn.
The promotion is valid for stays from May 27 to September 4, 2017 and you need to register by August 30, 2017.
A maximum of 4,000 bonus points can be earned per stay, but you will probably only earn 2,000 on most stays and you won’t earn any points at all on your first stay. Here are the details of the promotion:
- Stay 1: No bonus earned
- Stay 2+: Earn 2,000 bonus points
- 2,000 additional bonus points for each different Marriott brand stayed with, starting with your second brand
- No limit to the number of bonus points you can earn (other than the obvious limit imposed by the length of the promotion)
Is the Summer 2017 MegaBonus a Good Deal?
If you are already planning to stay at Marriott hotels this summer, the summer 2017 MegaBonus is pretty decent. You’ll earn at least 2,000 points starting with your second stay, which I value around $10. Especially if you have one night stays planned, this is a sweet little bonus. Better yet if you are hopping between Marriott brands a little bit and can pick up some additional bonus points.
Marriott points can also be transferred to Starwood Preferred Guest at a 3:1 ratio, so those 2,000 Marriott points can be converted to 666 SPG points. This added flexibility makes the promotion a little better, in my opinion. SPG has yet to announce their summer promotion.
This MegaBonus isn’t as good as Marriott’s promotions used to be, but they have been going downhill for a while. All in all, it’s not a bad one. I think the worst part about this promotion is that it won’t start earning you any bonus points until the second stay, so someone who only has one trip planned would benefit more from staying with a different brand.
