My Alaska Airlines “Swag For Your Bag Tags” Have Arrived

by Steve Case
Last updated September 12, 2021

Alaska Airlines used to send out plastic membership cards to the members of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.  For those who hold top-tier status, Alaska would also send two bag tags.  I realized that I didn’t receive either my membership card or bag tags for 2021.  Was this an oversight or a program change?  This may have been a change due to Covid or a cost-cutting decision.

Why I Like To Use The Alaska Airlines Bag Tags

Whether bags are checked or carried on the aircraft, things happen.  Bags get lost, delayed in transit, misrouted or they get left behind.  Most baggage tags that people use have a lot of personally identifiable information (PII) like:

  • Address,
  • Phone number and
  • Frequent flier account number.

I like the Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75K bag tags because they just have my name.  If Alaska Airlines finds my bag, they know how to contact me.  If another airline or somebody else finds my bag, they can call Alaska Airlines and Alaska can contact me with the contact information for the person that found my bag.  I don’t have to leave my personal information exposed to the world.  The bar code on your boarding pass has enough information for a hacker to get into your frequent flyer account.  Always shred your used boarding passes.

How I Got My 2021 Bag Tags

This was a very simple process.  If you want your MVP Gold 75K bag tags, all you have to do is call Alaska Airlines Customer Care at 1 (800) 252-7522.  In less than two weeks, I had my new bag tags.

My wife and I use our bag tags both our checked baggage and our carry-on bags.  If either one of us loses track of a bag, it is nice to know that the airline can help reunite us with our missing bag.

Final Thoughts

In a world full of scams and identity theft, protecting your personally identifiable information is more important than ever.  Being able to tag your bag without exposing your personal information is important to me.  The airline will get me reunited with that left-behind item.
