Upgraded to Business Room at the Conrad Centennial, Singapore

by Brad
Last updated January 7, 2019

After a long but excellent journey from home to Singapore via Chicago, San Francisco and Seoul in Singapore Airlines First Class, we had finally arrived in the first destination of our trip, Singapore.

I don’t stay in Hilton properties very often anymore, but the Conrad Centennial was well regarded among many options in Singapore and it was a good way to burn through most of the rest of my stash of Hilton points after the most recent major HHonors devaluation.  I booked this category 6 hotel for Hilton 40,000 points per night.

I was able to get Hilton Gold status before this stay, and that got us a one category room upgrade from a standard room to a business room. Diamonds typically get upgraded 2 categories to an executive room with lounge access.

Here is a description of the Business room from the Conrad website.  We were given a letter at check in which listed free internet and the other the Business Floor “entitlements”.  These were:

  • Buffet breakfast at “Salon by the Pool” from 6:00am to 10:30am
  • Up to S$20 in laundry or Dry Cleaning each day
  • Complimentary shoe shine
  • Daily fruit plate as welcome amenity
  • Guaranteed 3pm checkout
  • Maximum of 1 hour per day in a meeting room in the Business Centre, subject to availability

We took advantage of a few of those, and actually used the Business Centre to print our boarding passes for our onward journey.  Having the free laundry would have been more helpful later in the trip, but it was a somewhat unique perk to have for free.   I don’t often pay the exorbitant charges for hotel laundry service, but this was nice.  I did a decent amount of laundry for only few dollars out of pocket.

We arrived at the hotel via taxi in the very early hours, and we simply wanted to get to sleep and try to get acclimated to the new time zone.  Our room was well equipped and modern enough for our needs.  We certainly didn’t spend much time while in Singapore in our room other than to sleep.

The bathroom was nice, with a separate tub and shower.  We weren’t too fond of the Aromatherapy Associates branded shampoo and other items, but the variety of products provided was extensive.

The public areas of the hotel were quite nice, especially the very modern lobby.

I didn’t notice anyone breaking the code, but I found this sign a bit humorous.

The fitness center was excellent, if a bit small.  It is on the same level as the outdoor pool.  The 4th floor is also the location ofthe Salon by the Pool, where we had breakfast each day.

Only a small portion of the varied breakfast options.

Breakfast was quite extensive, with multiple stations of hot and cold items available.  There was always western style options, plus various Singaporean choices that varied by day.  They had multiple fresh juices and smoothies plus a lot of fresh pastries.

Final Thoughts

The focus of our time in Singapore was not the hotel, but we were happy with the location and the service we received at the Conrad.  The property is the the Marina Centre, near Marina Bay, and an easy walk to downtown.  Here are some views from our room:

My next post will discuss some of the activities we enjoyed in Singapore.  This was the first visit for both my wife and I, and I certainly hope it is not our last.  Other than the heat and humidity, it was a great place to visit.  A diverse mix of cultures, and lots of food that is cheap, fresh, and really tasty!
