Visiting the Singapore Airlines Private Room

by Brad
Last updated January 2, 2019

Singapore Airlines is highly regarded for their in flight service.  On the ground, their service is not nearly as over the top.  Their home base at Changi Airport makes layovers easy, it is one of the nicest airports I’ve ever experienced with movie theaters, butterfly gardens among many other available activities.

Lounge within a lounge, within a lounge

Since we were departing in Singapore Airlines First Class, we could access their most exclusive lounge, the Private Room.  This is accessible only for flyers departing in Singapore Airlines First or Suites Class.  Top tier elites in the Silver Kris program and flyers on partner airlines in First Class access the FCL.  There is a single entrance for the Silver Kris Lounge, and three separate sections, Business Class, First Class and the Private Room.  Upon presenting our boarding pass, we were escorted to the First Class section, from there, a new agent escorted us to the Private Room, where another agent seated us.  Not particularly efficient, but I guess it makes people feel special.

The Private room is very small, and very quiet.  Its not as over the top as the Lufthansa First Class Terminal or even their First Class Lounges, or the Thai Airways Royal First Class Lounge, but it very nice, since it seems so exclusive.  I didn’t take a lot of pictures, since I didn’t want to intrude on the very quiet nature of the lounge.

There is a rather extensive selection of reading materials in various languages.

There are several TV’s, and some private rooms for phone calls or doing work at a desk.

Dining in the Private Room

There is also a buffet, but we barely had the opportunity to look at the options. Once we sat down staff offers to take our order off a menu. Knowing there I was about to sit on a plane for the next 16 or so hours with various meal services,  I didn’t eat too much in the lounge.

After being seated, we were offered a hot towel, and I had some fresh pineapple juice.

I did want to have one last taste of Singapore, so I opted for Roti prata.  It was a bit odd having what is typically street food with cloth napkins in a fancy environment.  I guess the same could be said about the satay served on board.

The Private Room, was a very exclusive spot before our Singapore Airlines flight.  It was worth visiting, and is a great lounge. Still I find it well below the standards of the ground services for Lufthansa or Thai Airways.
