Delta Upgrades Transcontinental Premium Economy Product

by Rocky Horan
Last updated September 20, 2018

Delta is once again upping its game on their transcontinental route by further enhancing their premium economy product offering. In the last year we’ve already seen Delta offer free spirits and free upgraded snack wraps to economy comfort customers between New York’s JFK and Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angelas, and today Delta announced that starting tomorrow customers will see further improvement to their economy comfort cabin with more added amenities which include a full size bottle of water, pillows, blankets, the same amenity kit given to long haul international economy class passengers, a mid flight frozen yogurt bar.

“Economy Comfort customers will receive a complimentary pre-set pillow and blanket on their seat while they board the aircraft. After boarding, Economy Comfort customers will be offered a Delta sleep kit, including eye shades and ear plugs, as added amenities. During flight, Economy Comfort customers will enjoy complimentary Luvo snack wraps and a full-size bottle of water for all flights and Luvo frozen yogurt bars as a mid-flight snack on most flights except those flights leaving the West Coast after 9 p.m.”

“Delta continues to invest in Economy Comfort with upgraded amenities for customers when they fly one of our transcontinental routes from New York to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle,” said Jeff Robertson, vice president – Product Development, Sky Clubs and Marketing Communications. “Adding pillows and blankets for comfort as well as Luvo wraps and mid-flight snack offerings improves the travel experience for our premium economy customers so they arrive at their destination rested and refreshed.”

Will these small upgrades be enough to compensate Delta highest elite fliers who no longer receive complimentary upgrades on transcon flights or justify the $99+ dollars for a few extra inches of leg room for Delta’s nonelite customers? I think not! However, any enhancement is welcome and further proves how Delta is leading the industry in reintroducing inflight amenities where many other airlines (especially United) has been focused on reducing costs and taking away perks and amenities.
