Singapore Changi Airport’s New T4 Will Open October 31

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated October 30, 2017

Changi Airport in Singapore is consistently rated one of the best in the world, and it’s not hard to see why. Sure there are multiple lounges with amenities for business and first class passengers, but the airport also boasts lots of facilities for the average passenger just trying to kill a couple hours before their flight. (Or, catch a free tour of the city!)

Duty free shops are complimented by more unusual features like a butterfly garden, outdoor cactus garden, free cinema, and even a rooftop pool (for a charge). Anyone can explore the terminals without exiting security or passport control. Many local Singaporeans will even visit the airport to visit the shopping mall underground or use the observation deck before security.

Changi’s new T4 will officially open tomorrow, October 31, and will host operations by Cathay Pacific and Korean Air. Vietnam Airlines and others will join later this year. A fifth terminal, T5, and a domed garden and shopping complex in the middle of the airport loop are still under construction.

Unfortunately T4 will not be connected to the other three terminals (which share a train system past security). This is because T4 is technically a low-cost carrier terminal, but the airport as a whole is so busy that it made sense to include some of these other carriers in the move. T4 is located before the entrance to the main airport loop, where T1-3 are connected in a U-shape. A bus will be required for inter-terminal connections.
