US Airways Dividend Miles Now Merged with American Airlines Advantage Miles

by Rocky Horan
Last updated January 22, 2019

Over the weekend American Airlines and US Airways merged millions of frequent flyer accounts as the two companies sunsetted US Airways Dividend Miles. Throughout the weekend many people reported issues with their American Airline Advantage accounts, such as having issues logging in, seeing miles, accessing reservations, etc. However, American was expecting these issues and warned customers in advance that some functions of their Advantage accounts would be offline intermittently throughout the weekend.

I didn’t want to think about the end of US Airways Dividend miles so I personally did not try to log in over the weekend; but because I had linked my accounts when asked by AA I received the following email from American Airlines Sunday night.

After reading the email, I checked my Advantage account and the 18K miles were deposited into my account without issue.

This process was painless for me and appears to have been done without any major IT glitches. There are some reports on flyertalk of some minor issues but overall it appears as though this migration was a slam dunk for the AA team.

Some Minor Website changes

With the migration of the two accounts I did notice a few website changes on AA.com

1) Logging into your Advantage account now requires last name verification and can be done with either an AA or US Airways frequent flyer number.

2) All reservations on both airlines containing frequent flyer numbers are now listed in your “Upcoming Trips” tab.

3) The Advantage “My Account” home page and profile received an updated look to match the rest of the site refresh which AA has been rolling out since the merger
