Review: Qantas Business Class Lounge, Perth

by James Dozer
Last updated March 28, 2018

This review is for the Qantas Business Class Lounge located in Terminal 4 (domestic departures). Located near gate 13, the new Qantas Business Class Lounge is open from 4:15 AM (4:45 AM on Saturdays and Sundays) to the last Qantas departure. Opened last year, the Qantas Business Class Lounge is accessible to domestic business class passengers departing on the same day, Qantas/Emirates Platinum members, oneworld Emerald cardholders and first and business class passengers arriving from or connecting to an international Qantas or Emirates flight,

Once inside, I found the Qantas Business Class lounge to be spacious and beautiful. The colors are clean and sophisticated and the materials are consistent with their new design aesthetic. The use of ambient and soft lighting made the lounge feel warm and inviting and the large floor to ceiling glass windows let in a lot of natural lighting (and provided views of the tarmac).

The lounge is shaped like a U with seating on either sides of the central dining area. With capacity for over 350 people, there are plenty of seats in the main seating areas with a combination of soft leather armchairs, community tables and single cocktail chairs.

The seating area closest to the entrance is the quieter area whereas the seating in the back of the lounge is designed more for socializing with others. TVs and flight information display boards are located throughout the lounge. What I really appreciated about the seating area is that not all the seats are grouped together with other seats. There are single seats available for people who just want to be by themselves and not feel as though they have to interact with others.

If you need to get some work done, you can sit at any of the community workstations or dining tables. USB ports and standard Australian electrical outlets are located throughout the lounge (along the walls of the main seating and dining areas and at the community workstations) and WiFi is provided throughout the lounge. There are two Apple Mac computers and a printer/copier/fax machine available for your use.

The focal point of the lounge is the spacious buffet station/dining area. With a delicious spread of both hot and cold food items including a pizza bar, you will not go hungry on your next flight. And unlike most lounges, there is no shortage of dining tables to enjoy your meal at.

For beverages, there are two hosted bars. One bar is located by the food station and the other is located in the back of the lounge by the social sitting area. The bar up front also doubles as a coffee bar where the barista can either pour you a glass of wine or whip up a café latte for you.

Individual shower suites are provided on a first come, first served basis and are stocked with Aspar branded bath and body products. Dental hygiene and shaving kits can be obtained at the front reception. There is no dedicated lounge attendant so you just have to wait for an open door. And because there is no signup system, make you sure you lock your door to prevent someone from just walking in!

Overall, this is a great lounge not just by domestic standards but by international business class standards as well. At the time of my visit, 9:00 PM on a Sunday night, the lounge was empty and quiet. The lounge employees were pleasant and did a great job of keeping the lounge clean and buffet items replenished. The food was plentiful and delicious and the amenities were appreciated. I love that Qantas has stepped up their lounge game and hope other carriers will follow suit and catch up to the high bar that Qantas has set.
