Alaska Airlines has just announced a three-day fare sale to Hawaii.  These fares must be booked by 11:59 pm on September 16, 2021.  Travel dates are from September 28, 2021 through March 10, 2021.

As you can see that $99.00 fares are for basic economy and are not available from all cities.  You should be able to save more by using your Alaska Airlines Visa credit card companion certificate.  If you have available companion fares, they can be found on the Alaska Airlines website when you log on to your account and click on discount codes.

Terms and Conditions

As in any sale, there are the usual terms and conditions:

Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or all days. If nonstop service is offered during the advertised travel period, the advertised fare applies to the nonstop flights only. Bag fees apply for checked baggage. An additional VAT fee from $2.15 (CAD) per bag for bags checked in Canada may apply. For travel solely within the state of Alaska, customers may check up to three bags free of charge. Additional fees apply to check more than three bags or overweight or oversized items. These fares are nonrefundable and are only available on flights marketed by Alaska Airlines for travel on Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, or SkyWest. A ticket purchased at an Alaska Airlines airport location or through one of our reservation call centers will cost $15.00 more per person than the advertised fare. Changes are not allowed on Saver fares, outside of our 24 hour cancellation policy. Applicable fare and tax differences apply to any changes made after ticketing. Fares include U.S. government taxes and fees. Canadian and Mexican government taxes and fees that are included in the fares shown are based on the current currency exchange rate and are subject to change. All fares are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change without notice, and other restrictions apply. Some markets may not operate daily service. Some flights may be operated by or in conjunction with Horizon Air or SkyWest. Costa Rican government taxes, fees and charges included in the fare shown are based on the currency exchange rate and are subject to change. In addition to the advertised fares which include taxes, fees, and charges in U.S. dollars, passengers departing San Jose or Liberia airports will be subject to a $29 (USD) departure tax, to be collected at the airport. Other restrictions apply.

Before You Go To Hawaii

The travel requirements to visit the islands have been a back-and-forth situation.  Before you pack for your Hawaiian vacation, please refer to the current travel protocol for Hawaii.

Alaska Airlines guests are now able to pre-clear at the departure gate, and bypass airport screening upon arrival in Hawaii.

To qualify for Hawaii Pre-Clear, your Safe Travels profile This indicates a link to an external site that may not follow the same accessibility or privacy policies as Alaska Airlines. By selecting a partner link you agree to share your data with these sites. must be updated with the following:

  • Proof of negative COVID-19 test result or one of the following vaccination records in PDF format.
    • United States CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card
    • VAMS (Vaccination Administration Management System) printout
  • Completed travel health questionnaire
  • Signed online attestation that your documents are true and accurate
  • We strongly recommend carrying a digital or physical copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or negative test result, and confirmation of lodging reservation.

See a gate agent to verify your Safe Travels profile and to receive a pre-clear wristband.

Your pre-clear wristband will allow you to skip airport arrival screening in Hawaii. However, your lodging and car rental company may still need to verify the QR code from your Safe Travels profile This indicates a link to an external site that may not follow the same accessibility or privacy policies as Alaska Airlines. Guests with pending test results will not be able to be pre-cleared prior to departure and will have to quarantine upon arrival in Hawaii for 10 days, or the duration of your stay, whichever is shorter.

Final Thoughts

Many people are still dealing with cabin fever and a trip to the islands may be the perfect cure.  As with any fare sale:

  • Seats are likely to be limited
  • Sale prices are likely to be for slower travel, weekday flights

Before you go, be sure to review the current travel protocol for travel to and from Hawaii.  Registering for the Safe Travels program will save you considerable time when arriving in Hawaii.  I have used the Pre-clear program and I was able to go straight to baggage claim from the jetway without stopping.
