20% Bonus Asia Miles When You Transfer Citi ThankYou Points

by Caroline Lupini
Last updated December 2, 2017

Through September 6, 2017, Citi is offering a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer your ThankYou Points to Asia Miles, Cathay Pacific’s frequent flyer program.

Normally the transfer ratio from TYP to Asia miles is 1:1, but with the transfer bonus every 1,000 TYP you transfer will get you 1,200 Asia Miles. This is the first transfer bonus Citi has ever offered for Asia Miles.

Asia Miles has a fairly complicated distance based award chart. If you’re unfamiliar, it may be worth putting some time into understanding the chart and redemption options before making your transfer. I recommend reading this Travel Is Free post about Asia Miles to learn some of the ins and outs of the program as well as some of the better redemptions. You can also use the Travel Codex Award Maximizer tool to get an idea of redemption costs between different regions for an upcoming trip of your own, including the cost of redeeming Asia Miles.

Keep in mind that Asia Miles expire three years after being earned or transferred into an account. This expiration can be extended if you pay a fee, but it’s better if you make sure you have an immediate use for the miles before transferring.
