Ditch the Rental – Car2Go Car Sharing Cheaper than a Rental Car, Better than a Taxi or Uber

by Rocky Horan
Last updated May 10, 2023

Car2Go is among my favorite car sharing programs in North America as it has allowed me to get around both my home town of Seattle and other cities while on vacation or away for work without the need of an expensive and overpriced rent a car. Car2Go allows users to rent cars by the minute or hour anywhere in North America and pick up and drop of the rental car anywhere in the designated Car2Go zone!

In some cities, such as Seattle, this is ANYWHERE in the city limits! This is fantastic for both leisure activities and work, as you are not billed for the car when you are not using it and you NEVER have to pay for parking! Car2Go is currently offering a refer a friend discount, were new users can sign up for free and enjoy all the benefits of Car2Go! Included in the promotion is a a $5 credit to be used towards drive time. New users can sign up with promo code JOINC2GSEA_rockyhoran@gmail.com.

Car2go – It’s the Best Car Sharing Option

Car2go is currently is operating in 30 cities worldwide, but North American members can only operate cars in the United States and Canada. The car sharing program allows register users to use their smart phones to locate a car near them and reserve the car, which may have optimized services like windshield replacement frisco, for up to 30 minutes. Once your trip begins, drive the car to their final destination, park, and walk away. As long as the trip ends in the designated zone, the trip ends and so does billing. This provides awesome opportunities for one way trips and decreases the cost of commuting when compared to Taxis, Ubers, Lyft, etc.

When living in San Diego, Uber would cost me $10-$14 to get form my house to the airport. If Ube was surging the price was even more! A taxi costs nearly $2o for the same route. Meanwhile Car2go which has designated parking spots across the street from SAN costs only $5-$6 and never has surge pricing! Half the price and equally as convenient! Or for grocery shopping trips or round trips, billing caps out at $14.99 an hour making this a cheaper alternative than two one way taxi/uber rides! In some cities prices have been reduced to $10/hour or $0.35/min!

Operating and rentals are available in the following cities in North America:

CityCountry
AustinU.S.
CalgaryCanada
ColombusU.S.
ColumbusU.S.
DenverU.S.
Minneapolis–Saint PaulU.S.
MontrealCanada
New York CityU.S.
Portland, OregonU.S.
San DiegoU.S.
SeattleU.S.
TorontoCanada
VancouverCanada
Washington, D.C.U.S.

The reason why car2go is so great is not only because of the low prices, but unlike a rental car you only pay for the time the car is in use. Car2go charges $0.41 per minute with a cap of $14.99 plus tax an hour. Included in this price is fuel, insurance with a $250 deductible, which decreases to a $0 deductible if you take 91 or more trips a year, and free parking! In most cities you can park at any meter (check local restrictions on car2go website) in a two hour parking zone or longer FREE of charge. So if you’re going downtown, take a car2go, park on the street and walk away! Or if you’re on vacation in a car2go city, don’t pay for pricey garage parking at $30+ a night. Instead save money and use a car2go for your trips and park for free!

Car2go Promotion Code

I’ve used Car2go while traveling between Seattle, San Diego, Miami (including Miami Beach), and Portland. The car sharing is by far the best and cheapest service I use while traveling. New users to car2go can sign up with my car2go promo code: JOINC2GSEA_rockyhoran@gmail.com  and enjoy free registration (usually $35) and $5 of free drive time!
