Choice Privileges has once again brought back their stay 2 earn 1 promotion for stays February 19 through April 22, 2015. The promotion is very simple, stay at any Choice Privilege hotel on a paid rate twice and earn enough points for a free night at over 1500 hotels worldwide. However, any stays at MainStay Suites® hotels, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel®, Econo Lodge®, or Rodeway Inn® must be booked for a minimum of two consecutive nights to count and remember you must register!
Unlike other hotel programs that actually give bonus points on top of paid hotel stays, the way Choice Privileges rewards bonus points is by providing a bonus on the second stay. The first stay will earn the regular points, but the second stay will earn enough points for the free night, for total combined earnings of 8,000 points.
I took part in a similar promotion last summer and you can see my stay at the Econo Lodge only earned 715 points, but then my one night stay at the historic Hotel Alex Johnson (which was an amazing hotel) earned 7,285 points for a total of 8,000 points. Which equates to 1 free night at over 1500 properties.
Choice Privileges does have a tier program for their hotels, so know that 8,000 points is only enough points for their lower end hotels. Hotels rooms can cost between 6,000 and 35,000 points, but I find most decent properties to be in the 10-20K/night range. For properties that offer rooms for 8,000 points or less, check out Choice’s list on their website.
Many Choice properties outside of the Ascend collection, Comfort Inn, and Comfort Suites tend to be small roadside motels in small towns and/or in shady neighbors. However, they also tend to be some of the only lodging options in places like Custard National Park in South Dakota.
The small hotels are more than adequate and are often times much cheaper than large brand hotels like Marriott, Hilton, or Starwood. Not to mention, a Choice motel is truly on the same playing field as a Hilton Hampton Inn, Marriott Fairfield Inn, or Starwood Four Point property. Furthermore, when traveling in Europe, I find Choice properiteis to be MUCH nicer than their counterparts in the United States. Check out my review of the Comfort Hotel at FCO or the Quality Hotel Nova Domus – both booked for around 10,000 points/night.
Finally, if you’re going to stay at a Choice Privilege motel, you might as well consider the Choice Privilege cobranded Credit Card which has no annual fee and offers 8,000 points (1 free night) after your first purchase and another 24,000 points after using the card to pay for a stay at a Choice Hotel. Between the credit card and this promotion, you could easily earn over 40K points!
