Delta Airlines First Class Adds Local Seattle Flavors

by Rocky Horan
Last updated January 15, 2018

Delta Air Lines is taking Seattle’s gastronomy delicacies to the air on flights departing from Seattle this summer by updating their first class menu’s on flights from Seattle to Los Angeles and San Francisco to include locally sourced Seattle grub. Delta meal service update happens as Delta takes on Seattle’s hometown airline, Alaska. Delta is playing copycat attempting to fit into the Seattle culture by sourcing locally with crews, food, and booze.

Since July 21st, Delta has been offering new menus and plans to extend the offering on flights between 900 – 1,500 miles departing from Seattle. This will include everywhere in the light grey area below, but leaves out many longer flights to the Midwest and East Coast from Seattle such as Detroit, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Boston, etc. If flyers want a taste of Seattle in flight, I recommend Alaska Airlines which features Northwest Fresh flavors on all flights.

“Fresh, local and sustainable are core tenets of Pacific Northwest cuisine and Delta’s onboard food and beverage program, and that’s precisely the philosophy we follow with our new menus,” said Mike Medeiros, Delta’s Vice President – Seattle. “Our region’s most recognized purveyors shine in these thoughtfully crafted menus, giving Delta customers from around the world a taste of Seattle, whether they’re destined for Sea-Tac or just passing through.”

Delta’s chefs partner closely with the suppliers to craft menus. Sample menu pairings include:

  • Pappardelle’s lavender fettuccine with Pike Place Fish Market’s wild Alaskan coho salmon and Northwest Seafood Seasoning
  • Uli’s Famous German bratwurst and smoked bacon sausage with German potato salad and sauerkraut with sautéed apples
  • Garden vegetable salad with Pike Place Fish Market candied salmon and Beecher’s Flagship cheese with lemon vinaigrette

All menu pairings feature Pike Place Chowder’s award-winning clam chowder, Le Panier Brioche and a Le Panier chocolate macaron with chocolate ganache.

Other food items which will be sourced locally include:

  • Pike Place Fish Market
  • The Pike Brewing Company’s XXXXX Stout Mustard
  • Uli’s Famous Sausage
  • Beecher’s Handmade Cheese
  • Le Panier Bakery
  • Pappardelle’s Pasta

I enjoy seeing Delta up their game and offer locally sourced food items on flights from Seattle. After all any upgrade to food is warmly welcome. Not to mention, regional menus will make flying more enjoyable for frequent flyers.

Have you flown in first lately? How was your meal on Delta?
