Delta Refreshes TUMI Amenity Kits with Two New Designs

by Scott Mackenzie
Last updated December 13, 2017

Amenity kits are one factor that helps differentiate airlines and their premium cabins. Some have partnerships with designers or luggage manufacturers, and Delta is known for its TUMI amenity kits. Starting July 1, passengers in Delta One business class will be able to snag a new design. Delta’s actually launching two versions — hard shell and soft — so that people can get one in each direction and choose their favorite.

The contents are comprehensive. Each Delta One amenity kit includes:

  • TUMI-branded eye mask
  • TUMI-branded pen
  • MALIN+GOETZ lip moisturizer
  • MALIN+GOETZ body lotion
  • MALIN+GOETZ mouthwash
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • ear plugs
  • tissues
  • socks

As someone who uses a TUMI Alpha carryon, I wouldn’t mind grabbing one of these the next time I get an opportunity to fly Delta. It certainly looks better than some of the kits I’ve received on American and British Airways. (For more background, Delta has a history of airline amenity kits on its company blog.)

While I would never recommend choosing an airline solely on the basis of an amenity kit, I think it can reflect the overall quality of the travel experience. First class pajamas are in a similar category. In other words, airlines that pay attention to one small detail may also be giving attention to many others. Better I think to provide passengers with an amenity kit they want to use and hold on to than something cheap and disposable.

My current go-to is a Singapore Airlines first class amenity kit made by Salvatore Ferragamo because it’s not just soft but also flat, making it easy to fit into an overstuffed bag. And my pajamas are the newer PYE brand provided in Cathay Pacific’s first class, which are substantial without being heavy. They still fit well after a year of laundering.
