Delta Air Lines is offering a Skymile basic economy aware sale for just 2,500 miles each way to Mexico and 5,000 miles to Hawaii! That is 5000 miles round trip to Mexico and 10,000 to Hawaii! Delta is famous for not publishing award charts for the last several years. Although most SkyMile awards are astronomically costly, especially those in business class to Europe and Asia, this flash sale is a good deal.
Unfortunately, these deals are for basic economy. The upside, due to the pandemic, there’s very little service offering between economy, premium and First class now. In addition, Delta continues to block all middle seats, therefore no matter where you sit on the plane, there’s extra space. At least through April 21, 2021
The best deals appear to be from Seattle and on non-stop flights. I was able to find 4 seats or more on several routes for the low price of 5,000 miles round trip to Mexico.
You can “upgrade” for 4,000 miles on some routes for regular economy, but I really do believe there’s no point unless you’re hopeful for an upgrade. Even then, an upgrade only means a little more legroom and maybe a can of beer. For nearly double the price I would not spend double the miles.
Travel period is mostly through March 2021, but some destinations are extended later. Based on the email, the sale for travel is suppose to end for Puerto Vallarta by April 30th, but I was able to find trips for 5,000 return in May too. See the screenshot above. Travel dates to Hawaii seem to be more cut and dry.
Remember, if you are traveling, masks are required while in the airports and on the planes. A negative PCR test is mandatory to enter Hawaii and to return from Mexico.
