As Delta and Alaska fight over the west coast, Delta is trying to lure more people onto Delta’s airplane by offering unlimited double miles on all new North-South routes from Seattle. Double miles will be earned at 200% miles flown instead of the normal 100% and will count towards both elite status and redemption.
To be eligible for this promotion you must register and you must purchase your tickets before 12/31/13 and fly before the end of next October. However, before you go out and buy a bunch of Anchorage-Seattle-San Diego flights, remember that Medallion Qualify Miles (MQM) mean nothing now, because you cannot earn high level Delta elite status without spending a ton of cash. You can thank Delta’s new Medallion Qualify Dollars requirements for tha one.
Furthermore, if you’re looking for North-South flights on the west coast. I’d still highly recommend Delta’s partner, Alaska Airlines. They have more frequencies, fly only B737 vs Delta’s regional planes on most of these routes and offer Elite status upgrades for Delta Elite. In addition, if you’re going after Alaska Airline Elite status, Alaska Airlines is running their own double mile & double elite status earning rates on a number of North-South routes. Their promotion runs through the Spring and does not require advance purchase.
