Marriott is bribing customers to like and follow its social media channels as well as share pictures and comments about its brands. There’s really no simpler way to put it. Now through November 8, 2014, you can earn up to 2,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points each month (rolling 30-day periods) through its Plus Points program. That’s an oddly similar name to its Rewards Plus partnership with United Airlines.
To participate, just register your various Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Instagram accounts on the Plus Points information page. Then use those accounts to do such things as like or follow a brand or specific property, retweet a comment you see on Twitter, or share a geotagged photo of a hotel. It’s important to note that you do not need to be a registered guest at a Marriott hotel to participate.
Only three of Marriott’s hotel brands are participating, with a selection of properties within each brand. But this shouldn’t be an issue. Because you can earn 250 points for every Facebook page you like, you only need to like eight per month to get the full 2,000 bonus points. There are plenty of properties, and I have dummy Facebook accounts for exactly this kind of promotion. There’s not a lot of detail on the main page for Plus Points, so be sure to read the FAQs before participating.
