Earn 6x Points At Grocery Stores

by Rocky Horan
Last updated May 8, 2020

American Express and Chase are providing Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card holders 6 points per dollar at grocery stores for a limited time. The bonus opportunity provides value to Marriott credit card holders at a time when many people are not traveling. The bonus is the equivalent to what the cards typically provides for spending at Marriott Bonvoy hotels. So if you’re not traveling, but you’re cooking at home while sheltering in place, you can now earn up to 30,000 bonus points through grocery shopping.

Chase Marriott Credit Cards

The short term promotion runs May 1 through July 31, 2020 with a maximum bonus earn of 30,000 points. Which is $5000 in spending. No enrollment or activation is necessary. This promotion is ONLY good for Chase Marriott credit cards. American Express Marriott cards offer a different promotion.

From the T&C: For Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™, Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier Plus Business, and The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Cardmembers, that’s 4 Points on top of the 2 Points you already earn on grocery purchases with your Card. For Marriott Bonvoy Bold™, Marriott Bonvoy™, Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier, and Marriott Bonvoy Business™ Credit Cardmembers, that’s 5 Points on top of the 1 Point you already earn on grocery purchases with your Card. What is great about this promotion is that even business cards are included.

American Express Marriott Credit Cards

American Express is offering a slightly different bonus for grocery stores. Amex will actually allow more points to be earned, up to 45,000 points total. Dates are also May – July 2020.

  • Marriott Bonvoy and Brilliant Consumer Card Members will now earn 6X Marriott Bonvoy points at U.S. supermarkets on up to $7,500 in eligible purchases (May through July 2020).
  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Consumer Card Members’ eligible purchases at U.S. restaurants, including takeout and delivery, will now qualify toward the $300 Marriott Bonvoy Statement Credit benefit (June through August 2020).

Stay Relevant

Credit Card issuers are doing everything they can to stay relevant. American Express is even offering wireless and streaming credits on some cards. If you do not have a Marriott Credit Card, consider signing up for one to earn these new bonuses. New members can earn up to 3 Free Night Award E-Certificate valued at 35,000 points per night. In addition, new card holders are eligible for these spending bonus. If your primary spend category is groceries, this card is not for you. However, if you want an easy bonus during a time when you may be spending more on groceries than normal, this is great!
